Shenandoah Miniatures established in 1980, began with two pet quality miniatures as a birthday present.

As of 1998, Shenandoah Miniatures became Shenandoah Miniatures, LLC and has grown from two pet miniatures, 4 acres and a 30' by 50' barn to National Champions, 52 acres and a 40' by 100' - 27 stall barn.

In 1993 we expanded our operation to include a Foaling Service "Foal-Out", nationally known, with a 98% "Live Foal" average. We normally have between 60 to 70 horses booked yearly and we are the original Foal-Out facility for miniature horses.

In 2003 we began the first study of Embryo Transfer in Miniature Horses, using 1 donor mare and 3 recipient mares. The first embryo transfer foal was born June 25, 2004, and is registered under AMHR, owned by Jeanne McClanahan of Lil Darlings Miniature Horses. The second embryo transfer foal was born April 27, 2006, also owned by Jeanne McClanahan of Lil Darlings Miniature Horses.

This study continues today, defining the parameters and requirements for successful Embryo Transfers in Miniature Horses, as well as, establishing the first Embryo Transfer Station for Miniature Horses in the history of Miniature Horses. This service is now available to AMHR owners and horses.

A Little Miniature History

	The Miniature Horse originally bred for Royalty is now one of the most popular breeds of horse. They are recognized world wide, with registries in every major country.
"Miniatures are like potato chips....... You can't have just one."
In the United States there are two registries. The original registry, American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR), located in Morton, IL., a division of the American Shetland Pony Club, was established in 1971 to register miniature horses in two divisions, the "A" division for 34" and under horses, and the "B" division for 34" to 38" horses. The American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA), located in Alvarado, Texas, was established in 1978 to register miniature horses 34" and under.
Other registries have since formed throughout the world including a harness racing registry.
